This post is inspired by Reddit post in Make Up Rehab subreddit. Someone asked what make up products would we pick, if we were only allowed to choose 5 items. Reading the answers to this question is interesting to me. It not only shows how little product we actually need for everyday make up looks but also that everyone does their make up differently – I mean we all focus on different parts of our make up routine. Some people can’t imagine doing their make up without colorful eyeshadows. Others didn’t even mention eyeshadows in their list of 5 make up products.

I’m very basic when it comes to my make up routine. I’m pretty much always doing the same look but with different colors of basic neutral eyeshadows. I have days when I don’t do my face or brows. I was debating over some products to put on the list but I easily found dupes for specific items in products I already put on the list. So there we go, list of 5 make up products I need to do my make up!

Make Up With Only 5 Make Up Products Challenge

At the end of the post I also included some products that didn’t make it on the list of Only 5 Make Up Products Challenge with some explanation why and how you can dupe them. I feel like we have to get creative sometimes. Even though those are well known dupes, we tent to forget about them šŸ™ƒ

1. Powder foundation

When I was a teenager till my early twenties, I believed that I just couldn’t wear make up without foundation. At some point most of people in beauty space were doing full face with full coverage foundations. I’m glad that we are pass this point and shifted to more natural look.

Maybelline Fit Me Powder Foundation

Lately I stopped using liquid foundation and sometimes I don’t put any foundation at all. I use Maybelline Fit Me powder foundation instead of liquid foundation that gives more coverage than powder.

Whenever I have bad skin period, I don’t really want to hide it too much. I kind of accepted that pimples and redness is part of my skin. But also I don’t have any major issues with my skin.

In the past I would cake on my foundation and it would cover the blemishes but I would be still able to see the shape of the pimple poking through. I was frustrated because my skin didn’t look flawless like in Instagram pictures full of filters šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

2. “Booooring” Neutral Eyeshadow Pallet

To be honest, I’m pretty immune to all the pops of color eyeshadow pallets. I am well aware of my make up skills and I know that I would not be able to pull off those beautiful colorful looks. I think good neutral eyeshadow pallet is the best way to go for me.

Makeup Revolution Forever Flawless Decadent Eyeshadow Pallet

My Make Up Revolution Forever Flawless Decadent pallet has some pops of color in it but no blues and greens. I’ve seen it has mixed reviews. Shimmers in this pallet are good and mattes are also pretty decent. But I also think people usually don’t like other pallets in Forever Flawless line more, so I think I got lucky when I picked this one up at a drugstore.

3. Tinted Lip Balm

I find tinted lip balms the best option for me. The one I currently use – Pixi by Petra Shea Butter Lip Balm in Natural Rose wears down nicely and is easy to reapply during the day.

When I got it in my Goodiebox subscription box at first I wasn’t sure if I will like it or even use it but now I use it pretty much every day.

4. Setting Spray/Face Mist

I’ve heard a lot of people saying that setting spray doesn’t do anything for them but I feel like it helps me to hide my poor blending skills. After it dries down I feel that my eye make up actually looks better than before the face mist and I use basic face mist I received in Goodiebox. Even though I had it for almost two years, I still have 1/3 of it left šŸ™ˆ

5. Mascara

Last but not least, mascara. Sometimes I only use mascara on my lashes and call it a day. I think it is one of the most important steps in make up routine, as it holds everything together. I’m not a fan of eyelooks without using a mascara, they don’t look “complete” to me.

So those are my 5 make up products I’d use for basic make up routine. As I said before, I was debating over putting some other products on the list but I decided that I could easily dupe them with products listed above.

Make Up Products You Can Dupe

People who do Project Pan sometimes find multiple purposes for certain products to use them up quicker. I personally use one of highlighters I received in subscription box as an eyeshadow. There are some products that at first I wanted to include in my Make Up With Only 5 Make Up Products Challenge but I decided that I don’t need to.

Primer

Primer for many people is the most important step of their daily make up routine. I agree with that but I mostly use primers for my eyes. My skincare serves also as a primer on my lazy days. I let it absorb and I do my make up when it still feels kind of moist.

Blush/Bronzer

When you have one of those boring neutral eyeshadow pallets like I do, you probably already have certain shades you can use as your bronzer/blush.

Eyebrow Pencil/Tint

Same as with blush or bronzer replacement. Depending on your hair color, you can use certain shades from your eyeshadow pallet to fill in your eyebrows with angled brush.

That were my top pick in Make Up With Only 5 Make Up Products Challenge. What are yours? I’m interested in hearing your thoughts about your everyday make up looks.
